El Chato Chico was originally (so legend says) the house of the Moorish “holy man” adjoining what was then the mosque. The foundations are 1000 years old and the beam over the front door is said to be about 600 years old! In the early 16th century when the Christians finally took over the region, the mosque became the church and the priest used the house. The current structure dates back to the 17th century, although various parts have been added from time to time. The house has been converted into a comfortable and cosy guesthouse but retains its unique atmosphere. It has 3 twin and 2 double-bedded rooms, all en-suite and with central heating. There is also a small library with its own terrace for those who like to relax with a good book. The original features of the reception area, lounge (with log fire) and dining-room have been reserved as much as we were able and the breath-taking views from the roof terrace are exceptional for photographers and painters alike. |
